Limuru – Short and Sweet

One of my closest friends came to visit, time was short and we could only go away for one night. We needed somewhere close by and affordable and that’s where Airbnb steps in. Have you ever come across a property and just know deep down in your gut that it is going to be a wonderful place to visit? That’s what this house in Limuru was. It’s a relatively new property with only a couple of reviews but what sold us was the pictures. The panoramic views of the tea farms from the living room just brought instant peace and made us go “Yeap that’s the one.”

So after packing up the cooler, (mainly full of wine, because, hey, adulting!), jumping in the car and blasting some road trip tunes, we were headed for a much-needed girlies trip.

Getting there

The house is just a few kilometres away from Limuru Girls School. An easy drive less than 1 hour from Nairobi. Simply type in “Limuru Girls School” into google maps. But before you reach the school keep an eye for a sign that says “ATC”. Turn into that road and drive to the end. We didn’t get exact directions to the house, so we spent over half an hour trying to find this place. It was only until we saw the roof of the house over the hedge which looked quite similar to the pictures we assumed that was the house. Yay to gut instincts!

Amenities

The first thing we saw as we entered the house was the stunning view of the tea farm! I loved how one wall of the house was a giant window. We spent most of our time staring out into the distance, with a glass of wine of course.

This house is very modern. It has a fully equipped kitchen and for those who hate dishes as much as I do, there’s even a dishwasher (we didn’t try it out though).

When you have a well equipped kitchen, you got to put it to good use! There’s nothing better than the sweet smell of bacon in the morning.

Downstairs has a large living room with a tv, a double bedroom and a bathroom.

Upstairs is a tastefully decorated with a large master bedroom, a bathroom and its own little balcony overlooking the living room.

Things to do

When we weren’t sitting in the living room sipping on wine, playing card games we cured our cheese addiction at Browns Cheese Farm. We paid KSH 4,000 pp and this includes a tour of the factory, a three-course lunch with drinks and an opportunity to purchase cheese directly from the factory. If you’re keen drop an email to reservations@brownscheese.com or call 0727 103350.

If you’re interested in learning more about tea why not visit Kiambethu Tea farm?

Costs

We all wanted to treat ourselves without blowing the bank an the total cost for each of us worked out to be KSH 2,500. Avery reasonable price for such an accommodation. The house can only hold FOUR guests at a time so not ideal for big groups.

So whether you want a short and sweet getaway with your other half, friends or a night away with your kiddies, this lovely cottage in Limuru is a perfect choice.
